The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued fresh guidelines after several students raised concerns about the CBSE Class 12 evaluation process 2026. After the results were declared, many students and parents reported sudden drops in marks, especially in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Economics.
This year, CBSE evaluated answer sheets using the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system on a large scale. Under this system, the board first scanned physical answer sheets and then uploaded them for online evaluation. According to CBSE, examiners assessed more than 98 lakh answer sheets during the 2026 session.
CBSE said the digital system reduces manual errors. It also prevents mistakes in totalling, mark entry, and data handling. In addition, the board stated that the system improves transparency and speeds up result processing.
However, after the results were released, many students raised concerns about the CBSE Class 12 evaluation process 2026. Several students claimed that examiners missed step-marking in numericals. Others said that diagrams and partially correct answers did not receive proper marks.
As a result, discussions around the evaluation system increased on social media. Many students demanded clarification from the board regarding scoring methods in digital checking.
To address these concerns, CBSE introduced a new two-stage re-evaluation process. First, students must apply online to receive scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets. After reviewing them, students can apply for re-evaluation if they find marking errors.
CBSE also clarified that trained evaluators follow strict marking schemes. The board added that verification tools and multiple checks help maintain fairness in the system.
